While others may be suffering from coupon fatigue, I still love the hunting and bagging of the daily deal, especially when I reap something for the kids that I couldn’t otherwise afford. From Groupon to Living Social to moxie moms, there are plenty of ways to aid and abet the free range mama lifestyle. While the selections range from the ridiculous to the superfluous, every once in a while you hit gold, such as a recent Living Social dealie which for $10 gave you $20 to spend at Whole Foods. But a word to the thrifty—be careful not to get seduced into something you don’t need, don’t have time to redeem (all the coupons have specific expiration dates), or is still too expensive for your budget, despite the discount. With that caveat emptor, here are the best sites that cater to families in the Boulder/Longmont area:
The big daddy of the daily deals sites, Groupon offers some irresistible deals, from Rush açai smoothies to Jump Street discounts. Groupon prides itself on its witty copy, and even if the deal has personal interest, the verbage can make for amusing reading. My favorite Groupon ever: A deal at a hair salon that made getting my hair professionally colored affordable for the first time in my life (now I’m back to naturtint).
Living Social Families (living social.com)
Living Social recently came out with a daily deal specifically for families, and many of their offerings fall into that sweet spot of utility cum perk. Just a few days ago, Lollilocks, the frou-frou haircutting salon for tykes, had a haircut offer for $10, cutting it’s normally inflated prices right down to (my) size. Best Living Social score: Five days of drop-in camp at The Little Gym for $25, making each three-hour camp session only $5.
Boco deals (bocodeals.com)
A no frills site that typically features local restaurants, Boco deals offers great ways to save on life’s bare necessities—like going out to eat once a week. Best restaurant discovery Boco turned me on to: Zudaka restaurant in north Boulder, a health conscious vegetarian place that specializes in indigenous Latin foods.
Boulder Moxie Deals (moxiedeals.com)
You don’t have to be a member of moxie moms to take advantage of the weekly deals they send out. Definitely worth checking out, and I appreciate having a week or so to mull them over. Favorite Moxie Mom splurge: a facial by Khandro that used high-end organic skincare products.
Plum District (plumdistrict.com)
With a tag line of for moms by moms, you’re bound to come across something that piques your interest. Though I have yet to purchase anything from their site, temptations have come close to the bone. Plum gets the award for best deal that got away: They had 50 percent off Whole Foods Gift cards.
